Irvine Valley's women's volleyball team, which has won three straight matches and leveled its record to 4-4 in the Orange Empire Conference with a five-set win at Riverside on Wednesday, hosts No. 13 in the state Orange Coast on Friday night at home at 6 p.m.
Orange Coast leads the OEC standings with a record of 8-1.
OCC is also ranked No. 13 in the state and has a record of 16-2 overall.
The Pirates have won six matches in a row and all have been sweeps.
They defeated Santiago Canyon on Wednesday, 25-11, 25-17, 25-18. OCC was led by Nika Safavi with 13 kills and nine digs, Caprie Troccoli with 12 kills, setter Jordan Packer with 26 assists and Sophia Wirtzer and Kennedy Cutler with seven digs apiece.
On the year, Packer is averaging 8.65 assists per set, Safavi is averaging 4.13 kills per set and Payan averages 2.23 kills per set.
Safavi ranks third in the OEC in kills per set, Kelsey Gomarko ranks fifth in the conference in hitting percentage at .500 and Packer is second in the OEC in service aces per set at 0.76.
Irvine Valley (5-12, 5-5) went on the road and defeated Riverside, 25-18, 19-25, 21-25, 25-20, 15-11, in an Orange Empire Conference match on Wednesday night. It was a huge victory for IVC.
Sophomore outside hitter Audrey Fowler led the Lasers with 25 kills.
IVC dropped two of the first three sets, but finished strong.
The Lasers limited RCC to just .057 hitting percentage in the fourth set and then IVC stepped up and hit .312 in the fifth set to close things out.
Fowler finished with 25 kills and 23 digs, freshman opposite Hailey Oldham added 14 kills and 12 digs and sophomore outside hitter Alya Mersin had nine kills and three blocks.
Sophomore liberpo Nikki Korneff contributed 15 digs, freshman middle blocker Valeria Leon had five kills and seven blocks and freshman setter Alondra Castro finished with a season-high 49 assists.
Oldham is second in the OEC in kills with 208, Leon ranks fourth in the conference in blocks at 0.77 per set, Oldham is fifth in the conference in blocks at 0.67 per set, Fowler is second in the OEC with 4.12 digs per set and first in total digs at 284.
Irvine Valley plays again next Wednesday at Golden West at 6 p.m.
