Women's volleyball team swept at Cypress Wednesday night

The Irvine Valley women's volleyball team lost at Cypress, 25-23, 25-13, 25-21, in an Orange Empire Conference match Wednesday night.

Cypress improved its record to 7-7 overall and 4-0 in conference play. IVC went to 1-11 overall and 1-3 in conference.

The Lasers received nine kills and nine digs from sophomore outside hitter Audrey Fowler and eight kills by sophomore outside hitter Alya Mersin.

Freshman opposite Hailey Oldham ended with four kills and nine digs, sophomore libero Nikki Korneff had nine digs and three aces and freshman setter Alondra Castro contributed 22 assists and 11 digs.

The 22 assists and 11 digs were season highs for Castro.

Cypress was led by Zoe Ziegler with 18 kills (.433 hitting percentage) and Andrea Briseno with 13 kills. 

The Lasers host Santa Ana in a conference match Friday at 6 p.m.
