The Irvine Valley women's volleyball team took down Santiago Canyon in five sets on Friday night in an Orange Empire Conference match at home.
The Lasers split the first four sets and then held on in the fifth set, 15-12, to move their record to level in the conference.
IVC came out on top, 25-22, 21-25, 25-13, 15-25, 15-12.
Irvine Valley moved its record to 4-12 overall and 4-4 in OEC play. Santiago Canyon went to 2-6 overall and 4-6 in conerence.
It was an up and down night for the Lasers, who fought to win the first set, fell in the second set, captured the third set easy and then lost the fourth set by neary the same margin.
The contest went to a fifth set.
Irvine Valley took a 14-9 lead in the final set, but Santiago Canyon took the next three points before Laser freshman outside hitter Hailey Oldham ended the match with a kill.
Sophomore outside hitter Alya Mersin had a big kill to move IVC to 12-9, and Oldham and freshman middle blocker Valeria Leon came through with a combo block to get IVC to match point.
The Lasers had two players in double-figure kills with Mersin finishing with a season-high 15 kills. She added nine digs.
Oldham added 12 kills, eight digs and five blocks for Irvine Valley.
Sophomore outside hitter Audrey Fowler finished with nine kills, 14 aces and three digs, Leon ended with five kills, hit .308 and had five blocks and sophomore libero Nikki Korneff contributed a season-high 24 digs.
Irvine Valley setter Alondra Castro had another strong night with a season-best 44 assists and chipped in eight digs.
The Lasers look for their third straight win next Wednesday at Riverside at 6 p.m. IVC fell in five sets to RCC at home on Sept. 20.
