The Irvine Valley women's volleyball team played another tough match against a solid opponent Wednesday night at home.
But the Lasers came up short against MiraCosta, 25-14, 27-25, 23-35, 26-24.
The Lasers had their chances in both the second and fourth sets.
Irvine Valley tied the second set at 20-20 and tied again at 24 after MiraCosta hit out. Another hitting error by the Spartans made it 25-25.
But MiraCosta scored the final two points to take the set.
A kill by freshman opposite Hailey Oldham gave IVC a 23-21 advantage in the third set. MiraCosta tied things up at 23-23.
Irvine Valley won the final two points, including getting a hitting error from MiraCosta to end the set.
In the fourth set, IVC jumped out to a 10-5 lead on a kill by freshman middle blocker Valeria Leon.
And the Lasers went up, 19-13, on a kill by Oldham.
But the Spartans scored seven points in a row to take a 20-19 advantage. The set was then tied at 20, 21 and 22 before Irvine Valley got a kill by sophomore outside hitter Alya Mersin and a net by MiraCosta to move to set point.
MiraCosta tied it at 24-24 on back-to-back kils by Alexis Jones. And the Spartans scored two more points in a row to take the set and the win.
Oldham led the Lasers with 19 kills and 11 digs.
Sophomore outside hitter Audrey Fowler ended with 29 digs, sophomore outside hitter Jayva Andersen chipped in 13 digs and freshman setter Emmi Scelzo contributed 42 assists.
Leon added six kills, three aces and two blocks.
The Lasers hit .123 as a team on the night.
Irvine Valley plays again on Friday, hosting Pasadena City at 5 p.m. in a nonconference match. PCC is ranked No. 19 in the state.
