Women's volleyball team runs into tough Orange Coast squad

Irvine Valley's women's volleyball team ran into one of the hottest teams in the state Friday night at home.

The Lasers were swept by No. 13 Orange Coast, 25-15, 25-20, 25-16 in an Orange Empire Conference match.

Orange Coast stayed at the top of the conference standings with a record of 17-2 overall and 9-1 in the OEC.

Freshman opposite Hailey Oldham finished with 11 kills and 10 digs for Irvine Valley. 

Sophomore outside hitter Audrey Fowler added six kills and nine digs, sophomore libero Nikki Korneff had 16 digs, freshman middle blocker Valeria Leon contributed two blocks and freshman setter Alondra Castro ended with 21 assists.

Nika Safavi led OCC with 19 kills, 19 digs and five aces to go along with a pair of blocks. Kennedy Cutler added 10 kills and eight blocks and Jordan Packer ran the Pirate offense with 33 assists and finished with four aces.  

Irvine Valley plays again next Wednesday, traveling to Golden West for a conference match at 6 p.m.
