Women's volleyball team to take on Santa Ana Friday night

Irvine Valley's women's volleyball team will look to get back in the win column on Friday night when it hosts Santa Ana in an Orange Empire Conference match at 6 p.m.

Santa Ana has a record of 5-7 overall and 0-3 in conference.

The Dons fell at Saddleback, 25-11, 25-10, 25-12, Wednesday night.

Santa Ana is led by Lyric Birdsong, who is averaging 2.63 kills and 1.21 digs per set, Mia Kotani, who averages 2.53 kills and 1.45 digs per set, and Alexis Tortola (6.61 assists per set).

Irvine Valley (1-11, 1-3) fell at Cypress, 25-23, 25-13, 25-21, Wednesday in a conference match on the road.

The Lasers received nine kills and nine digs from sophomore outside hitter Audrey Fowler and eight kills by freshman outside hitter Alya Mersin.

Freshman opposite Hailey Oldham ended with four kills and nine digs, sophomore libero Nikki Korneff had nine digs and three aces and freshman setter Alondra Castro contributed 22 assists and 11 digs.

On the year, Oldham is averaging 3.04 kills and 2.20 digs per set, Fowler averages 2.16 kills and 3.90 digs per set and freshman setter Emmi Scelzo is averaging 7.67 assists and Korneff is averaging 3.17 digs per set for IVC.

Irvine Valley is at home again next Wednesday, hosting Saddleback at 6 p.m.
