Former Irvine Valley standout baseball player Shane Kary had a solid season this spring with NCAA Division II Minot State University in North Dakota.
Kary, a redshirt junior, played in 48 games, started 47 contests and hit .288 on the season.
Kary had 47 hits, 13 doubles, one triple, three home runs, 19 RBI and 71 total bases on the year.
He finished with a .822 OPS and a .436 slugging percentage.
During the 2024 season, he was named to the spring 2024 NSIC All-Academic Team and also selected to the fall 2023 VP of Academic Affairs Honor Roll and spring 2024 President's List.
He played in five games, hitting .313 with two doubles, one RBI and four runs scored.
Kary stood out for the Lasers for two seasons.
He played in 13 games and had 29 at bats with five RBI in 2020 before the season was shut down due to the pandemic.
The former El Dorado High player started at shortstop in an abbreviated IVC 2021 campaign and was one of the Lasers' stars.
In 22 Orange Empire Conference games, Kary batted .377 (29 for 77) with 15 runs, four doubles, two triples, 13 walks and 14 RBI. Kary led IVC in batting average and was third in RBI.
He had an on base percentage of .489 and a slugging percentage of .481.
Kary finished with eight, multi-hit games, including going 4 for 5 with one RBI at Orange Coast on Apr. 20, 2021 and finishing the year with a 2 for 4 effort with two doubles and two RBI in IVC's 9-7 win at Mt. San Antonio on May 28, 2021.
This past season, Kary shifted to third base and had another productive year, finishing with a .285 batting average (43 for 151). He had nine doubles, one triple, one home run, 23 walks and 19 RBI.
He had 11 multi-hit games, including recording three hits in four contests.
Kary went 3 for 5 with a run, double, triple and one RBI in IVC's win over Orange Coast on Mar. 8.
He helped IVC to a record of 12-14-2 in 2021 and 17-23 overall in 2022.
