The Irvine Valley baseball team rebounds from a loss to Long Beach City in its home opener Friday with a dominating performance at LBCC in a 10-2 win Saturday afternoon,
IVC racked up 17 hits and got a solid start from sophomore right-hander Tyler Eastham.
Irvine Valley led right away, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning on an RBI single by freshman designated hitter Connor Gomez and sophomore outfidlder Kade Murray hitting home plate on a passed ball.
The Lasers then added single runs in the second, third and fourth innings to go ahead, 5-0.
Irvine Valley put the game away with five runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 10-0 lead.
Sophomore catcher Aaron Serrato hit a RBI double, freshman outfielder Cole Lefebvre had a RBI single, freshman shortstop Jake Amundson knocked in two runs with a single and Murray came through with another RBI hit.
On the day, sophomore second baseman Chase Quezada, batting leadoff, was 3 for 5 with a walk and a run scored, Amundson was 2 for 5 with two runs and two RBI, Gomez went 3 for 5 with a run and one RBI and freshman third baseman Dylan Mayorga was 3 for 5 with two runs scored.
Serrato added two hits (both doubles), one run and two RBI and Murray went 2 for 4 with a double, two walks and two RBI.
As much as it was offense, the game was about IVC's efforts on the mound.
Sophomore right-hander Tyler Eastham threw five shutout innings to pick up his first win of the year.
Eastham went five innings, giving up just four hits and no runs with one walk and an impressive seven strikeouts.
Sophomore righty Jackson Chastain followed with three more scoreless innings. He gave up just two hits and now walks with three strikeouts.
Irvine Valley is away all of next week. The Lasers play at West LA on Tuesday, at Compton on Wednesday and at Ventura on Friday.
