The Irvine Valley baseball team struggled in the opening game on Saturday at Cerro Coso on Saturday, but came back with a solid win in the second game of the doubleheader.
Irvine Valley dropped the first game, 18-3, but bounced back with a 10-4 victory.
In the opener, Cerro Coso scored five runs in the bottom of the third inning and another four runs in the fifth inning to go ahead, 12-1.
The Coyotes added five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to put the game away.
For Irvine Valley, freshman center fielder Sam Tucci had two hits and scored two runs. Sophomore third baseman Shaun McCaghren and freshman designated hitter Thomas Riley each drove in a run.
Sophomore right-hander Zack Marker took the loss, allowing 12 runs (eight earned) on 13 hits. He struck out two.
Sophomore pitcher Tyler Eastham picked up the win in the second game for IVC, throwing 4.2 innings and striking out three.
Irvine Valley took the lead for good in the top of the second inning by scoring three runs to go up, 3-1.
With the bases loaded, freshman left fielder Cole Lefebvre was hit by a pitch to bring in IVC's first run.
Sophomore first baseman Jackson Snitko then walked to bring in another run and sophomore second baseman Chase Quezada scored on a wild pitch to make it a 3-1 game.
Irvine Valley added two more runs in the top of the fourth and fifth innings and scored three runs in the top of the sixth to take the lead for good.
Quezada went 2 for 5 with two runs and two RBI, Snitko was 2 for 3 with a run, two walks and three RBI.
And freshman shortstop Jake Amundson went 2 for 5 with a run scored.
Irvine Valley plays again on Tuesday (weather permitting) at Grossmont at 2 p.m.
