Volleyball team set for playoff match-up against Pasadena City

Irvine Valley's women's volleyball team, which won 19 games during the regular season, captured a share of the Orange Empire Conference and finished the regular season ranked No. 10 in the state, opens the playoffs Tuesday night at home.

The Lasers, who earned the No. 4 seed, and earned a bye in the first round of the 3C2A So. Cal. Regional Playoffs on Saturday, take on No. 13 Pasadena City at home Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Pasadena City hasa record of 19-8 overall and was 11-5 in the South Coast Conference. The Lancers finished tied for third in the SCC.

Pasadena is making its sixth straight trip to the postseason under head coach Mike Terrill.

PCC garnered six selections on the All-SCC first and second teams with Emma Yogan, Ashley Gilbert and Lindsay Delgadillo making the first team and Makayla Chiechi, Reese Roper and Kyley Chang making the second team.

Yogan is second all-time in kills for Pasadena. She is averaging 3.54 kills and 2.39 digs per set this season.

Ashley Marrone and Gilbert each average 1.90 kills and Roper is averaging 1.86 kills and 2.71 digs per set.

Delgadillo is averaging 8.89 assists per set, Chiechi averages 4.00 digs per set.

Pasadena reached the second round tonight by defeating No. 20 San Bernardino Valley, 25-21, 25-20, 15-25, 25-23, last Saturday at home.

Yogan finished with 16 kills and 13 digs, Itzel Aguayo had three blocks and Chiechi added 13 digs and five aces to lead the way.

Irvine Valley has a record of 19-4 overall and was 13-3 and ended up tied for first in the Orange Empire Conference.

IVC is led by first-year head coach and former Laser star indoor and beach player Anna Unke.

It last played on Nov. 14, defeating Riverside City, 25-18, 25-16, 22-25, 25-18.

The Lasers had four players named to all-conference teams last week.

Sophomore middle blocker Natalia Brandlin and sophomore outside hitter Tessa Marocco were each named to the first team and sophomore setter Mia Bertolone and freshman libero Audrey Fowler were each selected to the second team. Marocco was also named all-region for the second year in a row.

Marocco ranked first in the conference in aces per set at 0.73 and was fourth in kills per set at 3.63 and third in total kills with 272.

Brandlin finished first in the OEC and the state in hitting percentage at .447 and first in conference and fourth in the state blocks per set at 1.21.

Folwer ranked first in digs per set in conference at 4.49 and total digs at 341 in the conference and Bertolone was first in assists in conference and the state at 11.35 per set.

The winner of Tuesday night's match will take on the winner of No. 5 Saddleback and No. 12 Orange Coast in a regional final on Saturday.
