Women's volleyball team sweeps to stay in conference race

Irvine Valley's women's volleyball team swept Fullerton on the road Friday night.

The Lasers, ranked No. 8 in the state, scored a 25-10, 25-13, 25-18 Orange Empire Conference victory.

Irvine Valley improved its record to 17-3 overall and 11-2 in conference.

IVC trails Saddleback by a half match in the win column with three matches remaining in the season.

Irvine Valley plays again next Wednesday at Orange Coast at 6 p.m.

At Fullerton on Friday, IVC sophomore opposite Ava Guenther led the way with 11 kills and hit .348. She also added four aces for the Lasers.

Irvine Valley sophomore outside hitter Tessa Marocco finished with nine kills, four aces and three digs.

IVC sophomore outside hitter Olivia Ortega had a great night with eight kills and seven digs, sophomore setter Mia Bertolone ran the offence with 38 assists and had six digs, and freshman libero Audrey Fowler came through with 13 digs.

Sophomore middle blocker Avery Bennett also had seven kills for the Lasers.

Irvine Valley plays again next Wednesday on the road at Orange Coast in a conference match at 6 p.m.
