Women's volleyball team ranked No. 5 in the state in first poll

The Irvine Valley women's volleyball team is off to a great start to the 2023 season with a record of 3-0.

And the Lasers were recoginzed for it with a high ranking in the first California Community College Women's Volleyball Coaches Association Top 25 poll of the year.

Irvine Valley was placed at No. 5 in the initial poll of the season.

The Lasers trail only San Joaquin Delta, Grossmont, Sierra and Feather River.

Other Orange Empire Conference teams in the poll are Cypress at No. 11 and Orange Coast at No. 15.

The Lasers, the last SoCal state champ in 2017, have a young new head coach in former IVC player Anna Unke and have nice sweeps over Canyons, Mt. San Antonio and Moorpark.

Irvine features one of the state's most dynamic players in sophomore outside hitter Tessa Marocco. She is averaging six kills a set to top state hitters.

IVC plays again on Wednesday, hosting MiraCosta at 6 p.m.
