Former Irvine Valley men's basketball player Jesse Stines played in 30 of 31 games and started 13 contests for NCAA Division I University of Alaska Anchorage this past season.
Stines was also a star off of the court (contstruction management) and finished with a 3.80 grade point average overall as a junior on campus in Anchorage.
A forward from La Mirada, Stines started 13 of 30 contests, producing 4.6 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game for the Seawolves.
He led Alaska Anchorage and ranked 15th in Great Northeast Athletic Conference with 0.8 blocks per game.
Stines had 10 points (4 of 5 FG) and seven rebounds to boost 94-87 road win over Simon Fraser, and followed with seven points, three rebounds, two assists and key late steal in 71-67 road win over Western Washington.
Other top efforts included season-high 11 points (4 of 7 FG, 3 of 5 3FG) in a road loss to NCAA qualifier Northwest Nazarene, nine points (3 of 6 FG) in a 59-58 home win over Simon Fraser, and six rebounds in a road victory over Saint Martin's.
He did earn CSC Academic All-District recognition with that 3.80 GPA.
Stines, was at Irvine Valley for two seasons and earned first-team, all-Orange Empire Conference and team MVP honors as a sophomore in 2023-24.
The 6-7 forward out of Sonora High, averaged 13.9 points, 7.7 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.3 blocks per game, helping the Lasers to 17-12 record overall and a CCCAA SoCal Regional playoff berth last season.
Stines shot .488 overall from the floor and hit .344 from long range, producing six double-doubles and scoring double figures in 24 of 29 games.
He had big games of 22 points, 21 rebounds (IVC record) and four blocks in a 58-57 road win over MiraCosta, 24 points (10 of 14 FG) in a road win over Cuyamaca, and 22 points (10 of 17 FG) and 13 rebounds against Santiago Canyon.
Stines was named first-team, all-league in high school at Sonora.
