Men's basketball team routs Riverside once again in OEC game

The Irvine Valley men's basketball team defeated Riverside in the first round of Orange Empire Conference play by 37 points on the road.

The Lasers hosted the Tigers Wednesday night and while it wasn't a 30-plus point blowout, IVC still took down Riverside by 27 points.

IVC came out on top, 76-49.

Irvine Valley went into the contest tied with Riverside for fifth place in the conference standings. The Lasers are now tied for fourth place with Santa Ana after the Dons' defeat to Cypress Wednesday.

IVC's record went to 13-12 overall and 5-7 in the OEC. Riverside slipped to 12-13 overall and 4-8 in conference.

Irvine Valley shot an impressive 50.0 percent (30 of 60) from the field, made 11 of 14 free throws, out-rebounded Riverside, 38-35, and ended with just 13 turnovers.

The Lasers also scored 44 points in the paint.

IVC also helped hold RCC to just 27.5 percent shooting as a team on the night. RCC also went 0 of 18 from three-point rangein the contest.

The Lasers doubled up Riverside by the end of the first half, leading, 37-18.

For the game, Irvine Valley had three players score in double figures.

Freshman forward Matt Mowers led the way with 16 points, three assists and two blocks. He shot 7 of 10 from the field.

Freshman point guard Allen Moser added 15 points and five rebounds and freshman wing Yanis Aldeguer had 12 points, three rebounds and two assists.

IVC freshman guard Jackson Jennings gave the Lasers good minutes off the bench and contributed nine points, five rebounds, two assists and two blocks.

Riverside was paced by Deacon Toliver with 12 points and four rebounds and Corey Mitchell with 11 points and five rebounds.

Irvine Valley is back at home for another conference game on Friday at 6 p.m. against Orange Coast.
