Men's basketball team takes on Santa Ana Wednesday at home

After taking down Cypress by 20 points last Friday night in an Orange Empire Conference game at home, the Irvine Valley men's basketball team is back in the mix for one of the top seeds in the conference and a playoff berth.

The Lasers, ranked No. 29 in the state, defeated No. 19 Cypress, 67-47. The Lasers improved their record to 12-10 overall and 4-5 in conferene.

IVC is tied for fourth place in the OEC at 4-5 with two other teams.

And the Lasers face one of those teams in another key game on Wednesday night at home.

Irvine Valley hosts Santa Ana (also 4-5) at 6 p.m.

Santa Ana pulled off an upset over the No. 11 ranked in the state Fullerton Friday at home.

The Dons earned a 75-68 victory.

Santa Ana forced 20 turnovers on the night.

Cameron Swist led the Dons with 20 points. Mac West added 17 points and eight rebounds.

Santa Ana also had productive play off the bench with five players combining for 27 points.

Santa Ana has won three straight Orange Empire Conference games and has a record of 14-8 overall and 4-5 in conference play.

On the year, West is averaging 15.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game, Jackson Brennan averages 13.6 points and 4.6 rebounds, Kelvonte Ellis averages 11.4 points, 8.1 rebounds, 1.4 steals and 2.6 assists and Swist is averaging 8.7 and 3.0 assists points per game.

As mentioned, Irvine Valley had one of its best performances of the season last Friday, defeating Cyrpress.

Freshman point guard Allen Moser scored 16 points (14 in the first half) and received 12 points and 12 rebounds from freshman post player Matt Mowers.

Sophomore forward Josiah Reed also played a big part and finished with 10 points, four rebounds, three steals and two assists.

On the year, Mowers is averaging 12.3 points and 5.7 rebounds, freshman wing Yanis Aldeguer averages 9.9 points, sophomore guard Ammon Allan averages 9.0 points and 4.7 rebounds, Reed is averaging 7.9 points and 5.5 rebounds and Moser is averaging 8.0 points and 3.0 assists for the Lasers.

Irvine Valley's next game is at Santiago Canyon on Friday at 6 p.m.
