Irvine Valley standout men's soccer player Isaiah Ponce has committed to NCAA Division III UC Santa Cruz.
Ponce was a first team all-Orange Empire Conference player last fall for the Lasers.
The former Costa Mesa High standout started both years at IVC.
Ponce will be playing soccer, but also studying engineering in Santa Cruz.
He has been a scholar athlete at IVC for both of his years at the college.
On the field this past season with the Lasers, Ponce was one of Irvine Valley's most steady players.
He was someone that coach Conor Ward could always count on.
The holding midfielder started 16 games for the Lasers.
IVC ended with a record of 8-12-1 overall and 6-7-1 in the Orange Empire Conference.
And they were right there. IVC dropped nine matches by one goal.
UC Santa Cruz competes in the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) and had a record of 6-2-9 overall last season.
The Banana Slugs suffered a 2-1 loss to the Captains of Christopher Newport in the C2C men's soccer conference semifinals last season in Virginia.
