Men's soccer team earns a point with a draw at Santa Ana

Irvine Valley's men's soccer team came away with a point in Orange Empire Conference play with a 2-2 draw at Santa Ana on Friday.

All four goals in the contest were scored in the first half.

IVC held leads of 1-0 and 2-1 in the game.

Sophomore midfielder Moises Delgado started the scoring for the Lasers with an unassisted goal in the 10th minute.

Santa Ana tied the score with a goal by Paul Carrillo in the 27th minute, but Irvine Valley came back five minutes later to take a 2-1 advantage on a goal by freshman forward Marcio Costa. Freshman midfielder Luke Newman earned the assist.

The Dons then tied the score at 2 on a goal by Miguel Gonzalez in the 36th minute.

Santa Ana played with 10 men most of the match after a player received a red card in the ninth minute.

Irvine Valley ended up with nine shots in the contest, while Santa Ana had 11 shots.

IVC freshman goalie Josh Simonton made three saves on the afternoon.

Irvine Valley saw its record go to 2-6-1 overall and 0-1-1 in conference.

 

The Lasers play again next Tuesday, hosting Cypress in an OEC match at 3 p.m.
