Men's volleyball team takes fourth in row, and on a roll

The Irvine Valley men's volleyball team earned its fourth match victory in a row and got right back into the south division playoff mix as one of the top seeds.

The Lasers, ranked No. 6 in the state, defeated San Diego Miramar, 27-25, 25-14, 25-21, Friday night at home to improve its record to 13-5 overall and 7-3 in the south division of the state.

Irvine Valley was down in the first set, but rallied and tied the set at 23.

A kill by freshman Lucas Vo gave IVC a 24-23 lead.

The set was then tied at 24 and 25 before the Lasers took the lead for good.

Miramar served out and then a block by freshman Bryce Nohava and freshman middle blocker Joshua Daimanopouos ended the set.

The Lasers cruised in the second set, racing out to a 23-13.

A net call on Miramar, an ace by freshman opposite Travis Kaufman and a setter dump for a point by Nohava gave IVC a 2-0 lead in sets.

In the third set, Irvine Valley jumped out to a 13-8 lead.

Miramar pulled back to within 23-21 late, but the Lasers moved ahead 24-21 on a hitting error by the Jets and then freshman outside hitter Spencer York ended the match with an ace.

For Irvine Valley, freshman outside hitter Lucas Vo led the way with 10 kills and hit .714 (10-0-14) with three blocks.

Freshman setter Bryce Nohava had 28 assists, two aces and four blocks and freshman outside hitter Spencer York chipped in with eight kils, four aces and six digs.

Irvine Valley plays again next Wednesday at Grossmont in a divisional match at 6 p.m.
