The Irvine Valley men's volleyball team captured its fifth win in a row and improved its record to 14-5 overall and 8-3 in south divisional play with a 25-17, 18-25, 25-15, 25-18 victory at Grossmont on Wednesday night.
The triumph set Irvine Valley up for maybe its biggest match of the season this Friday night at Golden West.
Irvine Valley trails Golden West (17-2, 9-2) by a match in the standings.
Wednesday at Grossmont, IVC hit .254 as a team.
Freshman opposite Travis Kaufman finished with 11 kills, hit .409 and had four aces to lead the Lasers.
Freshman outside hitter Spencer York added 10 kills, freshman middle blocker Joshua Damianopoulos had nine kills, hit .471 and ended with five blocks and freshman outside hitter Tucker McClain contributed eight kills and four blocks.
Freshman setter Bryce Nohava ran the offense with 36 assists and chipped in eight digs and freshman libero Cage Gonzalez added 16 digs and four assists for IVC.
Irvine Valley plays at Golden West on Friday at 6 p.m.
