Irvine Valley's men's volleyball team fell to No. 2 San Diego Mesa in straight sets at home on Mar. 28.
The Olympians defeated the Lasers in just a little over an hour.
Wednesday night was a different story.
The Lasers pulled off the upset, beating Mesa, 22-25, 26-24, 23-25, 25-19, 20-18, in San Diego.
With the win, Irvine Valley moved into a tie for third place in the state South region with San Diego Mesa.
IVC improved its record to 12-5 overall and 6-3 in the region and Mesa went to 14-3 overall and 6-3 in the division.
Irvine Valley freshman outside hitter Tucker McClain finished with 13 kills, 10 digs and 16.0 points on the night.
Freshman outside Spencer York had 12 kills, 13 digs, five blocks and three aces and freshman opposite Travis Kaufman ended with 10 kills, nine digs and two blocks.
Freshman midde bocker Joshua Damianopoulos hit .455 on the night and had seven kills and three blocks, freshman outside hitter Lucas Vo contributed six kills and five blocks.
And freshman setter Bryce Nohava ran the offense with 40 assists and added eight digs and two kills and freshman libero Cage Gonzalez had 22 digs for IVC.
Irvine Valley hosts San Diego Miramar on Friday in a divisional match at 6 p.m.
