May 06, 2024The sophomore beach pair of Tessa Marocco and Kenzie Dews are Irvine Valley's athletes of the week for May 6. It is the second time this season that the pair has been honored. Marocco and Dews qualified for the 3C2A Championship with a solid showing at the regionals at El Camino, taking fifth place. -
Nick Grove/Luciano Pardo, Men's Tennis
April 29, 2024Irvine Valley's athletes of the week for Apr. 29 are men's tennis players Nick Grove and Luciano Pardo. The duo, which is IVC's No. 1 doubles team, won a 3C2A State Championship on Sunday at Libbey Park in Ojai, defeating Glendale in three, tough sets.

April 22, 2024Irvine Valley's athletes of the week for Apr. 22 are women's beach volleyball players Tessa Marocco and Kenzie Dews. The duo, which has been Irvine Valley's No. 1 pair all year, helped the Lasers to an undefeated Orange Empire Conference season last week, scoring a 5-0 win over Riverside Friday at home.

April 15, 2024Irvine Valley's athlete of the week for Apr. 15 is freshman pitcher Colin Rhee. The closer won a game and saved another one as the Lasers took two of three games against Fullerton in an Orange Empire Conference series last week. Rhee earned his fifth save of the year and first win on the mound for Irvine Valley.

April 08, 2024Irvine Valley's athlete of the week for Apr. 8 is freshman pitcher Zack Marker. Marker, out of Edison High, pitched a complete game shutout last Saturday in a 8-0 IVC Orange Epmpire Conference win over Riverside at home. He earned his third win of the season.

April 01, 2024Irvine Valley's athlete of the week for Apr. 1 is freshman men's tennis player Patrick Riggs. The former Woodbridge High standout helped IVC claim the Orange Empire Conference title with a doubles win at the No. 3 spot and then winning in three, grinding sets at No. 4 singles in the Lasers' 7-2 win over Riverside.

Natalia Brandlin/Audrey Fowler, Beach Volleyball
March 25, 2024Irvine Valley's athletes of the week for Mar. 25 are the No. 2 beach pair of Natalia Brandlin and Audrey Fowler. The duo has IVC off to a 9-0 start in the Orange Empire Conference. The duo won their match in a showdown against OCC Friday at home, 21-15, 16-21, 15-11.

Grant Dvorak, Men's Volleyball
March 18, 2024Irvine Valley's athlete of the week for Mar. 18 is freshman men's volleyball player Grant Dvorak. The setter and opposite had two more standout matches last week in leading the No. 4 in the state Lasers to two wins. Dvorak had 14 kills, hit .407 and added 25 assists and seven digs to lead the Lasers to a five-set win at No. 3 Golden West last Wednesday.

March 11, 2024Irvine Valley's athlete of the week for Mar. 11 is freshman men's tennis player Nick Grove. He has helped Irvine Valley to a No. 1 ranking in the first ITA So. Cal ranking of the season. The Lasers have a record of 5-0 overall and are 4-0 in the Orange Empire Conference.

March 04, 2024Irvine Valley's athlete of the week for Mar. 4 is freshman men's volleyball player Grant Dvorak. The setter had two outstanding matches this past week, helping lead IVC to a sweep at Grossmont Wednesday and then to a five-set victory over Miramar Monday at home. The victories were part of a four-match win streak for the No. 5 in the state Lasers.

Emily Freeman, Women's Basketball
February 26, 2024Irvine Valley's athlete of the week for Feb. 26 is sophomore women's basketball player Emily Freeman. Freeman had seven assists to help IVC rally for a 77-72 win at RCC last Friday. The Lasers finished the regular season with a record of 21-7 and will host a playoff game on Saturday night.

Christen Ziska, Women's Basketball
February 19, 2024Irvine Valley's athlete of the week for Feb. 19 is standout women's basketball player Christen Ziska. The sophomore wing player scored in double figures in both of IVC's wins last week. She had 14 points in the Lasers' 65-46 win over Fullerton Tuesday and then recorded 19 points in a 65-49 victory over Cypress Thursday.

Luke Farrington, Men's Basketball
February 12, 2024Irvine Valley's athlete of the week for Feb.12 is sophomore guard Luke Farrington. He is the leader in the state for three-point shooting percentage and Farrington knocked down eight three-pointers last Friday in a 67-55 IVC win against Santa Ana at home. He is shooting 52.2 percent (48 of 92) on the year from beyond beyond the arc.

February 05, 2024Irvine Valley's athlete of the week for Feb. 5 is baseball player Caden Byers. The sophomore right-handed pitcher threw seven shutout innings with six strikeouts in IVC's 4-3 victory over San Diego City last Friday afternoon. On the season, he has a 2.31 ERA in two starts.

January 29, 2024Irvine Valley's athlete of the week for Jan. 29, the second week in a row and third time this season is sophomore women's basketball player Makena Tomlinson. She scored 27 points with 15 rebounds as the No. 14 in the state Lasers defeated Saddleback, 72-55, in a conference game at home last Friday.

January 22, 2024Irvine Valley's athlete of the week for Jan. 22 is women's basketball player Makena Tomlinson. The sophomore standout post player scored a season-high 30 points and added 13 rebounds as No. 14 in the state IVC went on the road and defeated Fullerton, 70-57, last Friday.

January 15, 2024Irvine Valley's athlete of the week for Jan. 15 is sophomore women's basketball player Christen Ziska. The standout wing player scored 22 points with six rebounds, three assists and three steals as IVC won, 74-60, at Santa Ana Friday. Irvine Valley, ranked No. 14 in the state, moved its record to 10-6 overall.

January 08, 2024Irvine Valley's athlete of the week for Jan. 8 is freshman women's basketball player Moka Saiki. The guard out of Portola High led Irvine Valley with 20 points in a 77-48 win at Palo Verde last Friday night. She also added three rebounds and six steals in the contest, which moved IVC's record to 9-5 overall.

December 25, 2023Irvine Valley's athlete of the week for Dec. 25 is men's basketball player Ammon Allan. He scored 19 points and added seven rebounds and five assists as the Lasers defeated Cuyamaca, 72-60, on the road last week. The freshman guard out of Texas has been a key contributor for the 9-4 Lasers this season.

December 18, 2023Irvine Valley's athlete of the week for Dec. 18 is sophomore men's basketball player Luke Farrington. The sophomore star guard finished with 14 points and three rebounds in IVC's 69-49 nonconference win over LA Valley last Friday night at home. Farrington has helped lead IVC to an 8-3 record overall so far.

December 11, 2023Irvine Valley's athlete of the week for Dec. 11 is star men's soccer player Lennart Granzow. The sophomore center back was recently named the Orange Empire Conference defensive player of the year, first team all-OEC, all-state, all-Western Region and second team All-American for the Lasers.

Jesse Stines, Men's Basketball
December 04, 2023Irvine Valley's athlete of the week for Dec. 4 is sophomore men's basketball player Jesse Stines. The post player was named to the all-tourney team at the Monterey Bay Classic after helping the Lasers to wins in two of three games. His best game came in IVC's 58-45 win over Hartnell in the consolation final Saturday. Stines finished with 20 points and 10 boards.

Mia Bertolone, Women's Volleyball
Irvine Valley's athlete of the week for Nov. 27 is sophomore women's volleyball player Mia Bertolone. She finished with 52 assists in IVC's five-set, regional-final win Saturday against Orange Coast at home to help the Lasers move on to the 3C2A State Championships. Bertolone has led the state in assists most of the season and is averaging 11.19 per set.

Makena Tomlinson, Women's Basketball
November 20, 2023Irvine Valley's athlete of the week for Nov. 20 is sophomore women's basketball player Makena Tomlinson. The star post player has helped IVC to a perfect 5-0 record so far. She is averaging a team-best 12.6 points and 10.0 rebounds on the year and also shooting a team-high 56.6 percent from the field.

David Ogunlade, Men's Basketball
November 13, 2023Irvine Valley's athlete of the week for Nov. 13 is standout men's basketball player David Ogunlade. The sophomore point guard was named the MVP of the IVC Classic this past weekend as he helped lead the Lasers to two wins and the title, including a 68-66 victory over Cerritos in the finale Saturday night.

November 06, 2023Irvine Valley's athlete of the week for Nov. 6 is sophomore women's volleyball player Audrey Fowler. The standout libero finished with 13 digs in No. 8 Irvine Valley's, 25-10, 25-13, 25-18 OEC sweep at Fullerton last Friday night. She leads the conference in digs at 4.55 per set.

Sydnee Salamoff, Women's Soccer
Irvine Valley's athlete of the week for Oct. 30 is freshman women's soccer player Sydnee Salamoff. The starting goalie for IVC recorded her fourth shutout of the year last Tuesday in the Lasers' 3-0 win at Fullerton. She made eight saves in the match and had 14 total stops on the week.

Natalia Brandlin, Women's Volleyball
October 23, 2023Irvine Valley's athlete of the week for Oct. 23 is sophomore women's volleyball player Natalia Brandlin. Brandlin shined in IVC's four set win over Golden West at home last Wednesday, recording 15 kills, seven blocks and hitting .609. She followed with five kills and five blocks in the Lasers' sweep at Cypress Friday.

October 16, 2023Irvine Valley's athlete of the week for Oct. 16 is freshman men's soccer player Armon Haghighat. The former, local University High star, had two goals and one assist last week as the Lasers scored a 2-2 draw at Santa Ana on Tuesday and then a 4-1 victory over Stantiago Canyon at home on Friday.

October 09, 2023Irvine Valley's athlete of the week for Oct. 9 is sophomore women's volleyball player Mia Bertolone. The standout setter helped lead the Lasers to two more wins last week, including finishing with 61 assists in IVC's come from behind, five-set win over Orange Coast in a big conference match at home Friday night.
