Irvine Valley's athlete of the week for Feb. 5 is sophomore baseball player Caden Byers.
The right-handed pitcher threw seven shutout innings with six strikeouts in IVC's 4-3 victory over San Diego City last Friday afternoon.
Byers, out of Murrieta Mesa gave up seven hits in the seven innings.
He started Irvine Valley's first game of the year on the mound and went 4.2 innings in the Lasers' 6-4 victory at Long Beach City on Jan. 26.
On the season, he has a 2.31 ERA in two starts and has seven total strikeouts in 11.2 innings pitched.
Irvine Valley is slated to play again on Friday against Rio Hondo at home at 1 p.m.
