Irvine Valley's athlete of the week for Mar. 4 is freshman men's volleyball player Grant Dvorak.
The setter/slash opposite had two outstanding matches this past week, helping lead IVC to a sweep over Grossmont last Wednesday on the road and then to a five-set victory over Miramar this Monday at home.
The victories were part of a four-match win streak for the Lasers, who are ranked No. 5 in the state.
Irvine Valley's record went to 6-2 overall.
Irvine Valley went on the road to No. 8 Grossmont last Friday and earned a 25-18, 25-15, 29-27 victory. Dvorak finished with eight kills, hit .368, contributed 20 assists and two blocks in the win.
On Monday (Mar. 5), the Lasers defeated No. 9 Miramar, 25-20, 25-27, 17-25, 25-21, 18-16.
Dvorak ended with 14 kills, hit .481 and contributed 27 assists, five digs and three blocks.
The 6-6 Dvorak, out of Corona del Mar High school, is averaging 2.21 kills per set, hitting .384 and adding 5.77 assists and 1.03 digs per set.
The Lasers play again in a big match on Wednesday night, hosting No. 2 San Diego Mesa at 6 p.m.
