Irvine Valley's athlete of the week for Apr. 8 is freshman pitcher Zack Marker.
Marker, out of Edison High, pitched a complete game shutout on Saturday in a 8-0 Orange Empire Conference win at home over Riverside.
He had his best start of the year, giving up just four hits in the victory.
Marker threw 107 pitches, but cruised in most innings with the help of freshman catcher Aaron Serrato.d
Marker also just allowed two walks and had four strikeouts in improving his record to 3-4 on the year.
"It was a signature performance," Irvine Valley coach Kent Madole said. "It is what we all know he can do."
The Laser offense gave him tons of support, especially in the bottom of the seventh inning when Irvine Valley scored five runs to put the game away.
On the year, Marker has thrown 51.0 innings. He has is averaging 4.76 strikeouts per game.
