Irvine Valley's athlete of the week for Nov. 13 is standout men's basketball player David Ogunlade.
The sophomore point guard was named the most valuable player of the IVC Classic this past weekend as he helped lead the Lasers to two wins and the title, including a 68-66 victory over Cerritos in the finale Saturday night.
He calmly stepped to the line with nine seconds left and knocked down two free throws to give Irvine Valley a 67-66 lead.
IVC held on to win, 68-66, for the title.
Ogunlade finished with 17 points and three rebounds in 32 minutes.
In the first game of the tournament on Thursday, Ogunlade finished with six points, four rebounds, three assists and three minutes in a team-high 36 minutes as Irvine Valley defeated Cerritos, 71-53.
On the season so far, Ogunlade is averaging 11.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and is one of the stars on defense for the Lasers, who are undefeated with a record of 3-0.
