Women's basketball team moves up to No. 6 in the state

Irvine Valley's women's basketball team moved up a spot in both the state and Southern California Region rankings put out by the California Community College Athletics Association on Monday.

The Lasers, who were ranked No. 7 in the state and No. 5 in the South for the past several weeks, are now No. 6 in the state and No. 4 in So. Cal.

Irvine Valley jumped ahead of Palomar in the rankings.

The teams ranked ahead of IVC in the state are undefeated Mt. SAC (27-0), College of Sequoias (24-3) and East Los Angeles (23-3).

Irvine Valley trails only Mt. SAC and East Los Angeles in Southern California.

Irvine Valley improved its record to 21-3 overall and 8-0 in the Orange Empire Conference with a 55-52 overtime victory against Saddleback last Friday night at home.

It was Irvine Valley's ninth-straight victory.

The last IVC loss came in 2014 when it fell to Sequoias, 68-39, at the Sequoias crossover event.

Irvine Valley is back in action tonight, traveling to play at Riverside in a key conference game.

The Lasers host second-place in the conference Cypress on Thursday on homecoming night at Irvine Valley. Game time is 7 p.m.
