Women's basketball team has no probem against San Diego Mesa

Irvine Valley's women's basketball team earned its second straight win to open the season with an easy 75-36 win over San Diego Mesa in the Lady Gaucho Classic at Saddleback on Thursday.

The Lasers got contributions from a number of players in the victory.

Freshman guard Jordan Coleman led the way with 14 points, five rebounds and five assists. She shot 6 of 10 from the field.

Sophomore forward Conerie Brennan and freshman guard Jennifer Lopez each had nine points. Sophomore center Breanna Turner chipped in eight points and six rebounds and sophomore guard Karli Kato and freshman forward Samantha Perez each had six points for IVC.

Freshman guard Tara Casey added five points, three rebounds and five assists and sophomore guard Erika Pagkalinawan also had five points for IVC.

Irvine Valley shot 52.5 percent (31 of 59) as a team from the field and 47.7 percent (9 of 19) on three-pointers.

IVC had 23 assists on its 31 made baskets. It also out-rebounded San Diego Mesa, 44-23, in the contest.

Irvine Valley led, 47-18, at the half.

The Lasers move on to the championship semifinals of the tournament against East Los Angeles at 5 p.m. on Friday.
