Irvine Valley's women's basketball team won its eighth straight game and hit 10 wins for the season with a 67-59 victory over Cuesta in the opening round of the Tomlinson Coast Classic at Orange Coast.
Irvine Valley, ranked second in Southern California, defeated a Cuesta team that was ranked No. 10 in So. Cal.
The Lasers trailed by as many as eight points in the first half and were down, 30-28, at halftime, but used a strong second half, out-scoring Cuesta, 39-29, to earn the win.
IVC got solid contributions from all of its starters.
Freshman guard Tara Casey had 14 points, sophomore center Breanna Turner finished with 13 points and 15 rebounds, freshman guard Jordan Coleman had 11 points and six rebounds, sophomore guard Karli Kato chipped in nine points and sophomore forward Conerie Brennan had six points, five rebounds and four assists.
The Lasers also got nine points and six assists from freshman guard Erika Mercado.
Irvine Valley dominated on the glass, out-rebounding Cuesta, 45-30. The Lasers also had 17 assists on their 23 made baskets.
The Lasers shot 41.8 percent (23 of 55) from the field for the game.
Irvine Valley, which improved its record to 10-1 overall, moved on to face host Orange Coast in a championship semifinal on Friday at 7 p.m.
