Former Irvine Valley baseball player David Stone finished up his college career with Vanguard in dramatic fashion last month.
Stone helped Vanguard University reach the 2015 Avista NAIA World Series in May.
He received the Charles Berry Hustle Award after the completion of the event.
In his final collegiate contest (May 25th versus St. Thomas), Stone was 3 for 5 with a pair of doubles and also two runs batted in addition to his scored run.
In the field while playing first base, he posted eight put outs and assisted on two more.
The Vanguard baseball team's magical run fell short of a National Championship as St. Thomas (Fla.) knocked the Lions out of the NAIA World Series.
St. Thomas came out on top, 14-10, in Vanguard's third and final game in the tourney.
Vanguard finished with a record of 39-22 overall.
The Lions still had the highest number of wins during coach Rob Pegg's tenure. Vanguard reached the final site for only the second time in school history, doing so on the 30th anniversary of the first club to do it.
Stone played in all 61 of the team's games and started 60. He batted .263 with four home runs, 16 doubles and 30 RBI. He also scored 36 runs and stole 15 bases.
Stone was a two-year player at Irvine Valley (2012 and 2013), playing primarily in the outfield. He played in 47 games over the two seasons with nine doubles, a triple and 15 RBI.
