Irvine Valley's baseball team picked up two straight wins over Pasadena City on its week off from Orange Empire Conference play.
The Lasers followed up a 7-2 victory over Pasadena City on Tuesday with a 6-3 win over the Lancers on Wednesday at home.
Freshman center fielder Dillon Millar and freshman left-handed pitcher Ryan Abady were the stars on Tuesday at Brookside Park's Jackie Robinson Memorial Field in Pasadena.
Millar led an 18-hit IVC attack by going 5 for 5 at the plate. He also scored two runs and had two RBI.
Sophomore right fielder Brett Hamilton went 3 for 4 with a run scored, freshman second baseman Cory Mendoza was 3 for 4 with two runs, freshman left fielder Clint Jack was 2 for 5 with a run and freshman catcher Branden Williams went 2 for 5 with an RBI.
Abady improved his record to 6-1 with six shutout innings. He gave up six hits and three walks with one strikeout.
Freshman Joseph Chacon pitched the final three innings and picked up his first save. He gave up two runs on six hits and one walk.
On Wednesday at home, Irvine Valley trailed, 3-2, through the top of the fourth inning.
Irvine Valley tied the game with a run in the bottom of the fifth when Mendoza scored on a balk.
And then the Lasers took control with three runs in the sixth inning.
Freshman shortstop Jordan Gillerman had an RBI single to give IVC a 4-3 lead. Mendoza then had an RBI hit and freshman designated hitter Trey Ryan knocked in a run with an infield hit.
Freshman Michael Torres earned the win in relief. He went 5.2 innings and gave up one run (unearned) on three hits and two walks with five strikeouts.
It was his first ever win for Irvine Valley.
Freshman Cole Millerd picked up a save by pitching a scoreless top of the ninth inning.
Ryan went 3 for 4 with a run and one RBI to pace the offense. Hamilton, freshman shortstop Jordan Gillerman and Mendoza each had two hits for the Lasers. Gillerman and Mendoza each also had an RBI.
Irvine Valley improved its record to 16-12 overall with the back-to-back wins over Pasadena City.
IVC, which is ranked 14th in Southern California in the latest CCCBCA poll, is back in conference action next week.
Irvine Valley has a big two-game series with Golden West. The Lasers are at the Rustlers on Tuesday at 2 p.m. and then host Golden West on Thursday at 2 p.m.
