Baseball team can't offense going in loss at Fullerton

Irvine Valley's baseball team ran into a tough customer on Tuesday afternoon in an Orange Empire Conference game at Fullerton.

Dylan Prohoroff threw a complete game to help the Hornets beat Irvine Valley, 5-1.

Prohoroff, who improved his record to 6-1 on the year, allowed just one run on five hits and two walks with seven strikeouts.

Irvine Valley got another solid enough start on the mound from freshman left-hander Ryan Abady.

But Abady suffered his first loss of the season (4-1) after giving up three runs (two earned) on seven hits and three walks in six innings.

Freshman Marco Bedollo pitched the final two innings for IVC and gave up two runs on four hits.

Fullerton took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI single by Oscar Heredia.

Irvine Valley came right back in the top of the second and tied the game on an RBI single to center by sophomore third baseman Adam Vargas. The hit scored freshman first baseman Lucas Tancas, who singled through the right side to lead off the inning.

The game stayed that way until the bottom of the fifth when Fullerton scored two runs, including one an error, to go up, 3-1.

The Hornets tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the seventh for a 5-1 lead.

Garrett Basehart was 3 for 4 and Heredia went 2 for 3 with three RBI for Fullerton, which finished with 11 hits in the game.

Vargas, freshman designated hitter Robbie Espinosa, Tancas, freshman left fielder Clint Jack and freshman center fielder Dillon Millar each had a hit in the game for IVC.

Millar and Espinosa each had doubles.

Irvine Valley's record dropped to 12-9 overall and 4-4 in conference, while Fullerton improved to 16-5 overall and 6-2 in conference.

Irvine Valley plays Fullerton again on Thursday, but this time at Irvine Valley at 2 p.m.
