Irvine Valley's baseball team opens Orange Empire Conference play on Thursday at home against Fullerton at 2 p.m.
The Lasers go into the contest with a record of 8-5 after losing a tough game on Thursday at Long Beach City.
Long Beach City scored a run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to earn a 3-2 victory.
Irvine Valley trailed, 2-0, after two innings, but tied the game up with two runs in the top of the sixth.
Freshman first baseman Lucas Tancas singled to drive in sophomore right fielder Brett Hamilton, who had tripled.
And then freshman designated hitter Robbie Espinosa later singled to bring in Tancas.
The game stayed tied, 2-2, until the bottom of the ninth when Long Beach City scored the winning run.
The Lasers finished with 10 hits in the game. Tancas, Espinosa and sophomore third baseman Adam Vargas each had two hits.
Freshman left fielder Clint Jack went 1 for 3 with a walk.
Freshman Marco Bedolla started on the mound for IVC and went four innings. He gave up two runs on five hits and two walks with one strikeout.
Freshman Joseph Chacon then pitched three scoreless innings. He gave up two hits.
Freshman Cole Millerd was tagged with the loss. He pitched 1.2 innings and gave up one run on three hits and a walk with one strikeout.
IVC faces a Fullerton team on Thursday that has a record of 9-3 overall.
Fullerton opened the season 6-0 before a 3-3 finish to the nonconference schedule.
The Hornets have a .371 team batting average and a 2.86 ERA. Fullerton currently has seven players with double-digit hit totals, including freshman catcher Julio Rivera, who has a team-best 16 to go along with his .432 batting average and seven stolen bases.
Freshman Marco Rivera (.378, 14 hits, 11 RBI), sophomore Oscar Heredia (.480, 12 hits, 10 RBI in nine games) and freshman Laine Huffman (.318, 14 hits, eight RBI) had also been solid on offense.
On the mound, the Hornets are anchored by a sophomore starting trio of Dylan Prohoroff (3-0, 2.78 ERA, 23 strikeouts in 22 2/3 innings pitched), Kyle Lozcano (1-1, 3.47 ERA) and Gordan Cardenas (1-2, 3.60 ERA, one complete game), while relievers Axel Cruz, Randall Ortiz and Nico Castaneda have allowed just two earned runs over a combined 25 2/3 innings.
Irvine Valley has a team batting average of .298 and a team ERA of 2.46.
Tancas leads IVC with a .434 batting average with 23 hits, seven extra-base hits, ten runs scored and nine RBI, while freshman center fielder Dillon Millar has batted .333 with 17 hits, seven runs and eight RBI through the first 13 games of the season.
Jack is batting .326 with four triples, seven runs scored and eight RBI and Vargas is hitting .287
On the mound, sophomore Justin Zielinski and freshman Ryan Abady have looked impressive through their first four starts. Zielinski is 3-0 with a complete game and a 0.31 ERA, allowing just one earned run over 29 innings with no walks and 10 strikeouts. Abady is 2-0 with a CG and a 1.07 ERA, allowing three earned runs over 25 1/3 innings with five walks and 17 strikeouts.
After taking on Fullerton on Thursday, IVC is slated to host Riverside on Saturday at noon.
