Women's basketball team wins its 20th game of the season

Irvine Valley's women's basketball team continues to crush teams in the Orange Empire Conference.

The Lasers defeated Fullerton, 98-44, on the road on Wednesday night.

Irvine Valley, ranked fifth in the state by the CCCSIA, and No. 1 in Southern California in the CCCWBCA poll, improved its record to 20-2 overall and 9-0 in conference.

With the win, Irvine Valley moved within a win of capturing its fourth straight OEC title. The Lasers will go after that as they host Orange Coast next Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Irvine Valley took a 91-37 lead with 4:30 left in the fourth quarter for its biggest lead of the game.

The Lasers shot 48.8 percent from the field (39 of 80) as a team and out-rebounded Fullerton, 59-22, in the game.

Irvine Valley had nine players score in the game and five of those players in double figures.

Sophomore guard Paola Roa, IVC's athlete of the week this past week, finished with 19 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Sophomore guard Jessica Suruor had 15 points and three steals, freshman guard Aliya Richmond added 15 points and five rebounds off the bench and sophomore guard Morgan Higgins ended with 14 points, three assists and three

Freshman forward Sarah Matossian chipped in 10 points, 14 rebounds, three assists and three steals for the Lasers in another double-double performance for her this season.

Irvine Valley hosts Orange Coast with fans back in attendace on Tuesday. Social distancinig and masks are required.
