The Irvine Valley women's basketball team was back at it again on Sunday afternoon at home.
The Lasers played their fourth game this week (two make-ups due to COVID delays) and recorded a 4-0 mark. The Lasers, ranked No. 7 in the state, improved their record to 19-2 overall and 7-0 in the Orange Empire Conference with a 86-49 win over Orange Coast.
It was Irvine Valley's 10th straight victory. Over those 10 games, IVC has out-scored opponents by a remarkable 361 points.
IVC defeated OCC by 37 points on Sunday, beat Golden West by 40 points last Friday night at home and won by 55 points at Santa Ana Santa Ana on the road last Wednesday.
Irvine Valley led Orange Coast, 21-11, after the first quarter, but took over the game in the second period.
IVC out-scored the Pirates, 25-9, in the second quarter to take a 46-20 lead into the half.
IVC won the third quarter, 22-12, and the fourth quarter, 18-17, for the 37-point victory.
With the loss, Orange Coast went to 14-7 overall and 3-2 in conference and stayed in third place in the OEC standings.
IVC was paced by sophomore guard Morgan Higgins with 27 points and four assists.
Freshman forward Sarah Matossian had 21 points and 15 rebounds. Sophomore guard Samantha Uehara came off the bench with 12 points and five rebounds and sophomore guard Jessica Suruor ended with 11 points and a team-high six steals.
Orange Coast was led by Annie Trinh with 16 points and six assists. Karina Cabrera added 13 points and five rebounds.
Key differences for Irvine Valley were turning Orange Coast over 26 times and out-rebounding the Pirates, 52-34.
Irvine Valley is back in action on Wednesday, traveling to Fullerton for a 7 p.m. conference game.
