Alumni Report: Garrett Hayes starts and shines at Monterey Bay

Former Irvine Valley standout men's soccer player Garrett Hayes was a starter and top contributor for NCAA Division II Cal State Monterey Bay this past season.

Hayes played in all 18 CSUMB matches in the fall of 2022 and started in 16 for the Otters.

The starting defensive player ended with two assists on the year for Monterey Bay, which ended with a record of 8-8-2 overall and 6-5 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

Hayes played 1,456 minutes, which was third most on the Otter squad.

At Irvine Valley, Hayes was named first team all-Orange Empire Conference after the 2021 campaign, which saw IVC finish with a record of 9-10-3 record overall.

The Lasers played one of the toughest schedules in the state and reached the So. Cal. Regional playoffs. Hayes, who was a team captain, finished with one goal and four assists.

The former El Toro High star played an started in all 22 contests for IVC.

As a freshman in 2019 at Irvine Valley, he was a key starter on the back line and helped Irvine Valley reach the So. Cal. Regional Playoffs.
