Irvine Valley sophomore men's basketball player Josh Walker is headed to NCAA Division II Sonoma State University.
Walker had originally committed to NAIA San Diego Christian, but will be playing for the Seawolves and coach Rich Shayewitz.
The 6-6 Walker started 18 games during the 2021-22 season and helped the Lasers make the So. Cal. Regional Playoffs.
Walker, out of San Clemente High, was a two-year starter for Irvine Valley.
He started all 27 games during the 2018-19 season.
Walker averaged 2.7 points and 3.9 rebounds a game.
He missed the 2019-20 season with an injury and the 2020-21 season was canceled due to COVID.
But this past season, he played in all 27 games and started 18 contests.
Walker averaged 5.3 points and 6.0 rebounds per game and shot 58.4 percent from the field in heping Irvine Valley to a 18-11 record and 9-7 mark in conference. IVC made the So. Cal. Regional Playoffs.
He scored a season-high 15 points in a 80-69 win over Mt. San Antonio on Dec. 20, 2021. In that game he also recorded 10 rebounds, one steal and one block. He had a season-best 11 rebounds at Orange Coast on Jan. 12 in a 73-55 Laser victory.
Walker is headed to a Sonoma State program that competes in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
