Men's basketball team wins by 17 at Southwestern

Irvine Valley's men's basketball team earned its second win of the season on Friday night and it was a good one.

The Lasers defeated Southwestern, 86-69, on the road.

Southwestern was ranked 12th in the California Community College Men's Basketball Coaches Association Southern California Preseason Poll.

The Lasers, ranked 19th in So. Cal., were led by sophomore Mike Turner, who finished with 18 points.

Freshman forward Lance Coleman II added 15 points, freshman guard Daniel Hernandez had 13 points and sophomore center Lamont Tyler contributed nine points.

In all, 10 players scored for the Lasers with seven of them having five points or more.

Irvine Valley plays again this Thursday in its own Irvine Valley Classic.

The Lasers open up against Ventura at 6 p.m. in a first-round game. Ventura was ranked tied for 20th in the preseason poll in So. Cal.
