Men's basketball team wins two at Monterey Tournament

Irvine Valley's men's basketball team won two of three games in the Monterey Peninsula Tournament last weekend.

And the Lasers' one loss was a close. IVC opened the tournament with a 82-75 defeat to Yuba, who is the top-ranked team in Northern California this season.

Freshman forward Lance Coleman the II had 21 points and sophomore forward Zach Harvey added 10 points for the Lasers in the defeat.

Irvine Valley defeated South Pudget Sound from Washington, 71-68, on Friday to stay alive in the event.

The Lasers then beat Solano, 70-68, in overtime to end the tournament on Saturday.

Against Solano, sophomore guard Zuri Williams finished with 15 points, including four in the overtime period.

Freshman guard Bekim Djokovic chipped in 13 points

Coleman and sophomore guards Mike Turner and Jack Taylor each added 10 points.

Irvine Valley improved its record to 6-3 overall.

The Lasers next play in the Don Johnson Classic at Cypress starting on Thursday. IVC opens against Moorpark at 4 p.m.
