Irvine Valley's men's basketball team carried its strong play from December into 2017 and the start of Orange Empire Conference play.
The Lasers scored their most lopsided win of the season, defeating Santa Ana, 93-69, Wednesday night at home.
The 93 points was the most that IVC has scored in a game this year, topping the 88 it put up in a win over Southwestern early in the season.
IVC led, 45-30, at the half and never looked back in the win, which improved its record to 10-6 overall.
Irvine Valley has won four of its last five games, including knocking off two-state ranked teams in the Bill Brummel Classic at Saddleback in mid-December and then closing out 2016 with a 85-81 victory at LA Valley.
The Lasers shot 48.5 percent (33 of 68) from the field on Wednesday night, including making 44.0 percent (11 of 25) on three-pointers.
But Irvine Valley also out-rebounded Santa Ana, 47-36, and had 25 assists on its 33 made baskets.
The Lasers also got 30 points from their bench in the game.
Irvine Valley was up by as many as 28 points late in the contest before ending up on top by 24.
Freshman forward Lance Coleman II finished with his 11th game of 20 points or more this season, leading the way with 26 points. He made 8 of 17 shots from the field, including 5 of 9 three-pointers.
Coleman lifted his scoring average on the season to 21.5 points a game. He leads the conference and now ranks fifth in the state.
Sophomore guard Zuri Williams chipped in 13 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and three steals.
Freshman Daniel Hernandez led the IVC points off the bench with 12. Freshman forward Zane Paddon contributed nine points and four rebounds.
Sophomore guard Anthony Hernandez had nine points and seven assists and sophomore guard Mike Turner also had nine points in the win.
Santa Ana, which shot 37.5 percent (24 of 64) from the field, was paced by QV Johnson with 21 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Xavier Gunter had 12 pionts and 11 rebounds and Taurean Oram ended with 10 points and four rebounds for the Dons, which saw their record fall to 5-12 overall.
Irvine Valley will play again on Friday, taking on rival Saddleback on the road at 7 p.m.
Saddleback, which handed IVC its only loss in the last five games (by eight points in the final of Saddleback's own tournament), was ranked No. 1 in the state in the last poll.
