Men's basketball team ranked No. 19 in So. Cal. to start season

Irvine Valley's men's basketball team is ranked No. 19 in Southern California to start the 2016-17 season.

The first California Community College Men's Basketball Coaches Association poll was released on Monday.

Irvine Valley missed being ranked in the initial state poll.

That poll includes defending state champion City College of San Francisco as No. 1 with Saddleback, Las Posits, Yuba and Chaffey rounding out the top five teams.

The Southern California preseason poll features Saddleback at No. 1 with Chaffey second, East LA third, Fullerton fourth and El-Camino Compton fifth.

The rest of the top 10 includes Antelope Valley, Cerritos, San Bernardino Valley, Mt. San Jacinto and Citrus.

Irvine Valley comes in at 19th behind Glendale, Southwestern, LA Trade Tech, San Diego City, Cuesta, Pasadena City, Riverside and Mt. SAC.

Irvine Valley, which finished with a record of 15-13 overall and 3-9 in conference last season, opens the season next Tuesday, Nov. 1 at home against Cuyamaca at 6 p.m.

The Lasers then travel to No. 12 in So. Cal. Southwestern on Friday, Nov. 11 at 5 p.m.

IVC hosts No. 20 in Southern California Ventura in the first round of the Irvine Valley Classic on Thursday, Nov. 17 at 6 p.m.
