Irvine Valley men's soccer player Gabriel Velasco has signed with Division I Western Illinois University, said IVC head coach Conor Ward.
Velasco, a defender, started in defense the last two years for the Lasers.
He helped Irvine Valley to a 12-4-6 overall record this season and a 7-1-6 mark in the Orange Empire Conference.
IVC finished second in the conference standings, was the No. 9 seed in the So. Cal. Regional Playoffs and made a regional playoff final.
Velasco, out of Los Alamitos High, made 15 starts this past season and recorded one assist on the year.
He helped Irvine Valley limit opponents to just 33 goals in 22 games.
Velasco was also part of a 2022 IVC squad that finished with a record of 11-7-5 overall and also made the So. Cal. Regional Playoffs under coach Ward.
Western Illinois competes in the Ohio Valley Conference with the likes of Eastern Illinois, Lindenwood, Tennessee Martin, Morehead State, Southeast Missouri State, etc.
