Irvine Valley's men's soccer team had plenty of chances to earn a victory on Friday afternoon against Santiago Canyon at home.
The Lasers out-shot the Hawks, 15-3, in the contest and had eight shots on goal, but still had to settle for a 1-1 tie in an Orange Empire Conference contest.
Irvine Valley's record went to 6-2-3 overall and 1-0-3 in conference play. Santiago Canyon went to 3-4-3 overall and 0-2-2 in the OEC.
Santiago Canyon took the lead in the 35th minute on its only shot of the half. Diego Rivera scored on a header off of a ball in by Wesley Harris.
IVC had chances from sophomore midfielder Ivan Lopez, and Yousef Shahin, but both were saved by Hawk keeper Juan Pablo Alvarez.
Santiago Canyon went into the break ahead, 1-0.
The Lasers picked up the intensity in the second half and tied the score at 1 in the 51st mimute. Sophomore midfielder Lukas Stark scored on a rocket of a shot from 25 yards out off of a pass from Lopez.
IVC continued the pace on offense, getting good looks from Lopez, freshman midfielder Aleksey Dykhno, freshman forward Armon Haghighat, freshman forward Parsa Ghostabshi, Haghighat again, Stark and freshman forward Marcio de Oliveria Costa.
But the Lasers couldn't find the game-winning goal.
Irvine freshman keeper Josh Simonton finished with one save.
The Lasers play again on Tuesday in a huge conference contest at Santa Ana at 3 p.m.
