Irvine Valley's men's soccer team's season came to an end Saturday after a grueling double-overtime, 1-0, loss at Mt. San Antonio in the opening round of the 3C2A So. Cal. Regionals.

The Lasers, seeded ninth, had plenty of chances and out-shot No. 8 Mt. SAC, 22-16, in the contest.

But after 101 minutes of scoreless play, Frank Gonzalez scored what proved to be the game-winning goal for the Mounties on a free kick from yards beyond the box in the 102nd minute.

Irvine Valley's record finished at 12-4-6 overall. Mt. SAC (8-5-9) moves on to play at No. 1 El Camino on Saturday.

IVC sophomore forwards Ivan Lopez and Grant Miller, sophomore defender Gabriel Velasco, freshman midfielder Yasser Mallisho and sophomore midfielder Jacob Edwards were among the IVC players that had chances on goal in the game.

Mallisho hit a solid strike that Mt. SAC goalie Daniel Ramirez made a great save on in the 65th minute.

Ramirez played all 120 minutes in goal for Mt. SAC and had seven saves.

Freshman keeper Christoper Arzate played the first half and kept a clean sheet for the first half for the Lasers. Freshman Josh Simonton came in for the second half and played the overtime sessions.

Arzate made two saves and Simonton collected five saves for the Lasers.

IVC was second in the Orange Empire Conference under second-year coach Conor Ward and the future continues to look bright for the program.
