It was a special day for the Irvine Valley men's soccer team on Friday at home.
But in the Orange Empire Conference, no match is easy.
The Lasers held their sophomore day against Orange Coast, celebrating Gabriel Velasco, Lennart Granzow, Grant Miller, Jacob Edwards, Ivan Lopez, Lukas Stark, Christopher Camarena, Anthony Ocampo, Ali Younis, Fred Becovic and Sean Burdick.
Miller scored two goals, including one in the 74th minute to help lead IVC to a 3-2 victory over Orange Coast.
Irvine Valley, ranked No. 10 in the state, improved its record to 10-3-1 overall and 5-1-4 in the OEC. Orange Coast went to 2-13-3 overall and 2-7-1 in conference.
The Lasers continue to hold a solid second in the conference standings.
The goals by Miller were his 10th and 11th of the season and gave him the team lead.
Lopez assisted both goals by Miller and he increased his lead in the conference for assists to 13. Lopez also has 33 points overall, which is second in the conference.
Irvine Valley's other goal came from freshman forward Armon Haghighat off of an assist from Camarena in the 30th minute to put Irvine Valley ahead, 2-0, in the 30th minute of the first half.
Irvine Valley freshman goalie Josh Simonton ended with three saves in the victory.
The Lasers play again on Tuesday at Santiago Canyon in a conference match at 3 p.m.
