Men's basketball finishes out regular season Friday vs. Cypress

The Irvine Valley men's basketball team ends the regular season on Friday with an Orange Empire Conference game against Cypress at 6 p.m.

The Lasers have a record of 17-10 overall and are 8-7 and tied for third place in the OEC standings.

IVC went on the road and captured its 17th win of the season on Wednesday, beating Golden West, 70-59.

Irvine Valley got 24 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals from sophomore post player Jesse Stines.

He made 9 of 14 shots from the field.

Freshman guard Ammon Allan added 13 points and four rebounds and sophomore guard Roman Swizek finished with 11 points.

The Lasers shot 49.0 percent (25 of 51) from the field as a team and outrebounded Golden West, 35-29.

On the year, Stines is averaging 14.3 points, 7.7 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game. Swizek averages 11.3 points, sophomore guard Luke Farrington is averaging 9.6 points and is shooting 52.8 percent from the three-point line, which leads the state.

Allan averages 7.1 points and sophomore point guard David Ogunlade is averaging 5.9 points, 3.0 assists and 1.2 steals per game.

Cypress arrives with a record of 12-15 overall and 7-8 in Orange Empire Conference play.

Cypress fell to Santiago Canyon, 75-60, on the road last Friday.

Cypress shot 50 percent (20 of 40) from the field, but Santiago Canyon's difference was from the three-point line where it made six more than the Chargers.

The Chargers were led by James Christian III off the bench with 13 points and six rebounds.

Mark Onyejekwe, Allen Wright and Peyton Guerrero each added 10 points. On the season, Cypress has seven players averaging at least 5.0 points per game.

Wright is averaging 12.4 points and 5.4 rebounds, Onyejekwe averages 11.3 points and 4.6 rebounds, Guerrero is averaging 10.4 points and Christian III averages 6.2 points.

Higgy Katoa averages 2.3 assists.

So. Cal. Playoff pairings will be released early next week.
