Men's basketball team ready to take on Riverside Wednesday

Irvine Valley's men's basketball team hosts Riverside in an important Orange Empire Conference contest on Wednesday night at 5 p.m. at home.

Riverside comes into the game with a record of 7-16 overall and 4-7 in Orange Empire Conference play.

The Tigers defeated Orange Coast, 88-57, at home last Friday. RCC jumped out to a big lead and was ahead, 43-21, at the half.

The Tigers shot 56.9 percent (33 of 58) from the field in the game and made 15 of 16 free throws as a team for the night.

Nicholas Flemming led the way with 20 points and 14 rebounds for Riverside, Tomi Adesiji had 17 points, five rebounds and five steals, Troy Barbarin Jr. added 14 points and Darius McClain ended with 11 points and five rebounds for the Tigers.

On the season, Adesiji is averaging 13.8 points, McClain is averaging 11.6 points, Shaquille Samuels averages 10.4 points and 5.6 rebounds and Deacon Toliver is averaging 9.2 points and 6.6 rebounds per game for Riverside.

Irvine Valley earned an important 66-55 victory over Saddleback on the road last Friday.

The Lasers stayed in third place in the conference with the win. Irvine Valley has a record of 15-7 overall and 6-4 in conference.

IVC trailed, 29-27, at the half, but out-scored Saddleback, 39-26, in the second half for the win.

Sophomore guard Roman Swizek led in scoring with 19 points. He went 8 of 14 from the field and made all three of his three-pointers.

Sophomore post player Jesse Stines finished with 18 points and six rebounds and sophomore guard Luke Farrington added 13 points.

Sophomore point guard David Ogunlade contributed six assists and freshman forward Ethan Tauber had seven points and seven rebounds for IVC.

On the year, Stines is averaging 14.1 points, 7.6 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game.

Swizek is averaging 12.4 points, Luke Farrington averages 8.9 points and is shooting 50.6 percent from the three-point line.

Freshman guard Ammon Allan averages 7.0 points and Ogunlade is averaging 6.2 points, 3.0 assists and 1.2 steals per game for Irvine Valley.

Irvine Valley hosts again on Friday against Santa Ana at 6 p.m.
