Men's basketball team set to take on Golden West Friday

Irvine Valley's men's basketball team picked up one of its best wins of the season Wednesday night.

The Lasers went on the road and defeated Santiago Canyon, 77-69. The Lasers improved their record to 12-6 overall and 3-3 in the Orange Empire Conference.

Irvine Valley jumped out to a 37-29 lead at the half and held on over the final 20 minutes. Sophomore guard Roman Swizek finished with 24 points to lead Irvine Valley.

He was 8 of 12 from the field and 4 of 5 from three-point range.

Freshman forward Josiah Reed had one of his best games of the year, ending with 14 points and six rebounds in 32 minutes off of the bench.

Sophomore post player Jesse Stines had 11 points and four rebounds and freshman guard Ammon Allan chipped in 10 points, seven rebounds and three assists.

Swizek is averaging 12.1 points per game and has scored in double figures in 9 of the last IVC contests.

Sophomore guard Luke Farrington averages 8.2 points and is shooting 49.2 percent from three-point range and Allan averages 7.4 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.6 assists a game.

The Lasers have their next three games on the road, starting with a match-up at Cypress next Wednesday.

Golden West comes into the game with a record of 2-16 overall and 1-5 in conference play.

The Rustlers defeated Orange Coast last Wednesday, 87-76, at home.

Noel Camejo finished with 26 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals to lead the Rustlers.

Dj Williams added 23 points off the bench for GWC and Dominic McBride had 12 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and two steals.

On the year, Golden West is led by Camejo, who is averaging 16.7 points, Soma Doherty, who averages 13.9 points and 4.9 rebounds and Trevor Vertiz, who averages 11.4 points and 4.6 rebounds per game.

McBride averages 4.6 assists and 7.2 rebounds per game.
