Men's basketball team stays in standings race with win at Cypress

The Irvine Valley men's basketball team won its 14th game of the season Wednesday night, defeating Cypress, 71-57, on the road.

The win kept Irvine Valley (14-6 overall) in third place in the Orange Empire Conference with a record of 5-3.

The Lasers jumped out to a 39-24 lead at halftime and cruised from there. 

Irvine Valley led by as many as 19 points early in thye second half. 

IVC ended up shooting 56.5 percent (26 of 46) from the field as a team and held Cypress to just 37.8 percent from the field.

The Lasers also made 6 of 12 three-pointers and 13 of 16 from the free throw line.

Irvine Valley had 15 assists as a team on the 26 made baskets.

Leading the way for the Lasers was sophomore guard Roman Swizek and sophomore post player Jesse Stines, who each scored 18 points.

Freshman forward Josiah Reed and sophomore guard Luke Farrington each added eight points.

IVC freshman guard Ammon Allan chipped in seven points and three assists and sophomore point guard David Ogunlade contributed six points, six rebounds, four assists and two blocks.

Irvine Valley plays again on Friday in a conference game at Orange Coast at 5 p.m.
