Men's basketball team has important game with Dons Friday

The Irvine Valley men's basketball team plays its second home game of the week Friday night.

The Lasers host Santa Ana in an important Orange Empire Conference game.

Irvine Valley enters tonight's contest with a mark of 15-8 overall and 6-5 in the OEC.

The Lasers suffered a tough 57-53 loss to Riverside at home on Wednesday.

IVC trailed, 28-27, at the break, but came out strong in the second half and led, 35-30, after a layup by sophomore guard Roman Swizek with 16:44 left to play.

RCC took the lead for good at 37-35.

The game was close the rest of the way, but Irvine Valley couldn't get over the hump the rest of the way.

Swizek paced IVC with 14 points and five rebounds and sophomore post player Jesse Stines had 11 points, eight rebounds and three blocks. Freshman guard Ammon Allan added nine points and six rebounds.

On the year, Stines is averaging 14.0 points, 7.6 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game. Swizek is averaging 12.5 points, sophomore guard Luke Farrington averages 8.6 points and is shooting 49.4 percent from the three-point line. Allan averages 7.1 points and Ogunlade is averaging 6.0 points, 2.9 assists and 1.2 steals per game for Irvine Valley.

Santa Ana comes into the game with a record of 10-13 overall and 4-7 in conference play.

The Dons are coming off of an 81-64 OEC win over Golden West on Wednesday.

SAC trailed by two at the half, but out-scored the Rustlers, 44-25, in the second half for the win.

Mac West finished with 23 points and six rebounds and Ja'Von Maxwell finished with 18 points to lead the way.

Kaden Minter chipped in eight points and three steals and Court Franklin had seven points and 10 rebounds for Santa Ana. On the season, Minter averages 19.5 points and 8.4 rebounds, West is averaging 17.8 points and 6.9 rebounds, Cam Johnson is averaging 8.3 points, Maxwell averages 8.4 points and 5.4 rebounds and Karson Roberts averages 3.7 assists per game.
