Men's tennis team is back at it, beats Fullerton, 7-2, on the road

The Irvine Valley men's tennis team, after rainouts and spring break, was back in action on Friday at Fullerton.

IVC, ranked No. 4 in the state, and sitting second in the Orange Empire Conference, defeated the Hornets, 7-2.

Irvine Valley improved its record to 6-1 overall and 4-1 in the OEC.

The Lasers captured all three doubles matches to set the tone.

Freshmen Sam Shakiba and Bradley Yung won on the third court, 8-4.

Irvine Valley closed out the match with wins in four of the six singles contests.

The Lasers won matches on the third through the sixth courts in singles.

Freshman Nicholas Villar at No. 3, freshman Jonathan Hinkel at No. 4, No. 5 Shakiba and freshman Kei Ohya on the sixth court won in straight sets in singles.

Villar won, 6-1, 6-4, Hinkel swept, 6-1, 6-0, Shakiba earned a 6-3, 6-0 victory and Ohya won, 7-5, 6-2, in singles.

The Lasers have a busy week ahead.

They play at Orange Coast in a conference match on Tuesday at 2 p.m. to start.

Irvine Valley then hosts four-year Linfield College on Wednesday at 10 a.m. and will battle against Riverside on Thursday at home in an OEC match for the conference title at 2 p.m.
